Cape Cod Home Learners: Supporting Public Art & Celebrating Community
The Cape Cod Home Learners Cooperative is proud to announce the installation of:
Where in the World Are We? --A Cape Cod Canal Mural.
This 6 X 16 ft. mural and interactive display is located at the Cape Cod Canal, Herring Run Recreation Area Visitor’s Center. 830 Scenic Hwy, Bourne. The visitor center is open to the public April 16th thru October 15.
Join us in celebration May 1st at 3pm. Ranger Samantha Gray, Education Director, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will host a mural dedication celebration. Lauren Freed, Director of the Cape Cod Home Learners Cooperative, will be joined by Rick Freed, Art Director, Maddy Ames and Cedar Coellner—student art directors, and all members of the CCHL who participated to design, develop, and paint this beautiful piece of public art.
In addition, Ranger Gray, will introduce “Did You Know?” —An interpretation project designed with the help of CCHL students. Thru indirect interpretation, this program will allow the Cape Cod Canal Education Department to reveal and relate messages and stories to visitors of the Canal through signage, displays, art, websites, social media, etc. These stories will include a wide spectrum of topics and themes: Canal history, local history, natural history, environmental stewardship, canal structures, tides, shipwrecks, etc.
The Cape Cod Home Learners Cooperative has worked with Ranger Gray to create the first set of markers to be placed along the canal. Through barcode and smart phone technology, visitors will connect elements from the mural to sight specific information on location in and around the canal.
