Thank You Golden Paints!  Today was a fun day of finally putting color to our white-primed boards that will be pieced together and framed into a 6 foot by 16 foot mural.  Golden donated special acrylic artist paint for the project.

One final shot of the whole crew today:

Here it is folks....drum roll please...the final design:

How in the world are we going to get this image onto a 6 by 16 foot mural?  To start with, we used a projector and some pencils.
And those of us who weren't tracing, used the time to work on a fundraising project:

Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center
Our ceramic relief wall-hanging inside the visitor center.
Yesterday, a few of the students, parents, and grandparents dropped in at the Cape Cod Canal Visitor's Center.  We were excited and proud to see our art beautifully hanging on the wall!  The picture on the right was taken with Tony Pina (a student's grandfather) and Park Ranger Samantha Gray.  Thanks to Tony for constructing the sturdy wooden frame!  And thanks to Ranger Gray for being so gracious to our group!  The Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center is located at 60 Ed Moffit Drive in Sandwich, MA.

Below is a gallery of photos documenting the creation of this ceramic relief wall-hanging that was done in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Cape Cod Canal. Pam Golden was our primary instructor.  Great job Pam!!  And thanks to Rick Freed for all of his assistance with the layout and assembly.

Digital Design

For over two weeks, the students have been concentrating on the design of the mural.  Hand drawings have been scanned, edited, and then added to the photoshop design of the Cape Cod Centennial mural.  Multiple edits and additions have taken place over several meetings.  The final plan is just about in place.  The art director of this project, Rick Freed, will make a final review of the design this Friday.  Next step will be projecting and tracing the design.  After that, we wait with great anticipation for the arrival of specialty paints from Golden Artist Colors.
While a few students head up the digital design work, everyone else is busy with other aspects of this project.

We are building this mural to last!  This high quality medium density overlay board arrived and the kids applied four coats of primer.  Soon we will trace and then paint the mural design on these boards.  Thanks again Shepley Wood!  You have made this project possible and we are grateful!

In this phase of the mural project, we are scanning in drawings that the students made of associations with the Cape Cod Canal.  Every student contributed at least two drawings of objects that the group came up with during the brainstorming session.

Above:  Each drawing is scanned into the computer and edited with photoshop so that it is ready for placement in the final layout.  Instructor, Rick Freed, shares his knowledge and experience with a student.
